At Endon Hall Primary & Nursery School we believe that Mathematics is a tool for everyday life. It is a whole network of concepts and relationships which provide a way of viewing and making sense of the world. It is used to analyse and communicate information and ideas and to tackle a range of practical tasks and real life problems.
At Endon Hall we aim to inspire children to become Mathematicians who:
- consistently demonstrate a positive attitude towards Maths
- are fluent in Mathematical concepts and skills
- are able to apply their understanding to a variety of contexts, including through problem solving and reasoning
- show initiative and an ability to work both independently and in cooperation with others
- understand Maths vocabulary and are able to communicate and reason Mathematically
Maths lessons focus on delivering each of the aspects of the Maths curriculum, which are:
- Number and Place Value
- Addition and Subtraction
- Multiplication and Division
- Fractions (including decimals from Year 4 and percentages from Year 5)
- Ratio and Proportion [Year 6]
- Measures
- Geometry (properties of shape/position and direction)
- Statistics [Year 2 onwards]
- Algebra [Year 6]
In all curriculum subjects we have a strong focus on teaching and developing vocabulary, as this is such an important part of learning and understanding. Here is a document that shows the progression in Maths vocabulary from Early Years through to Year 6…
